Jeanine Ancheta

Jeanine is currently an undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University with a major in Microbiology and Biochemistry and minors in Philosophy and Environmental Toxicology. Through Dr. Brown's course in Marine Mammal Ecotoxicology (BISC 475) , she was inspired to apply her training in molecular biochemistry to marine conservation efforts.
Last semester, through the directed studies course, she explored the variability of feeding ecology and mercury (Hg) burdens of the Lake Melville ringed seal population in Northern Labrador, Canada through claw annuli. She is currently under the support of a USRA to employ qPCR methods to further examine the health of the Lake Melville ringed seal population through examining gene responses to contaminants and climate related stressors.
